It has been rumored for some time that Mario Götze could make his comeback in the national team at the World Cup in Qatar. According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, he is said to be in Flick’s provisional 55-man squad. Flick even wanted to nominate him in September, but Götze probably waved him off.
Götze only impressed with his commitment in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-1 win at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. National coach Hansi Flick watched him from the stands.

According to the report, Flick is said to have already planned to nominate Götze for the last international matches in September after Goretzka (Bayern) and Brandt (Dortmund) had to be canceled due to illness. At that time, however, Götze is said to have declined the invitation. Instead, Götze allowed himself a break in Milan.
