Major League Baseball (MLB) formalizes the arrival of Nike as a new equipment supplier from 2020

At the end of last week, Major League Baseball (MLB) formalized the signing of a 10-year contract with Nike and Fanatics for the period 2020-2029 to replace Majestic Athletic.

As part of this agreement, Nike becomes the official match kit supplier for the 30 franchises, with the presence of the swoosh. Fanatics, a leader in the management of licensed products, will notably take care of the production and distribution of the Nike MLB Authentic collections.

As a reminder, Under Armor signed a contract in 2016 to become the MLB’s equipment supplier for the period 2020-2029. An agreement that the brand led by Kevin Plank decided to break even before the start of the partnership, as reported a year ago by Sports Business Journal.

A major contract for Nike which, after signing with the NBA in 2017 and extending its contract with the NFL, further strengthens its leading position in the sports equipment market (36.6 billion dollars in turnover) by offering 3 of the major leagues in the USA.

As a reminder, adidas has been the supplier of the NHL since 2017 or of the MLS until at least 2024.
