Will Bayern make it through to the last 16 of the Champions League by beating Viktoria Pilsen? The voices of the game.

Pilsen – A team with two faces: While victories in the Bundesliga at FC Bayern have become surprisingly rare, the Nagelsmann team has so far shone with maximum points and zero goals in the Champions League.

With a win against Viktoria Pilsen (the game in the live ticker) Munich could as well as bag the entry into the round of 16. If Inter Milan does not lose against FC Barcelona at the same time, FC Bayern will be in the round of 16 if they win against Pilsen.

Of course, there was a lot to talk about before and after the game. We collected the votes from DAZN and from the stadium.

Julian Nagelsmann (FC Bayern coach) after the game over…

… the game: “At 0: 4 the last punch was no longer possible. We did very well in the first half. That was the toughest group this year, we made it through confidently.”

… the substitution of Thomas Müller: “The back muscles have tightened up a bit. It’s nothing dramatic though, just a precautionary measure for Sunday.”

… Manuel Neuer: “The pain picture was a bit better, but nothing more.”

… the upcoming opponent Freiburg: “Starting tomorrow, preparations for Freiburg will be very straightforward so that we can head in the right direction again in the Bundesliga. It’s normal that we have Sunday in mind because it’s also a very important game.

… the discussion about his person: “In general, I would like to emphasize that there is no match between Oli Kahn, Hasan Salihamdzic, Herbert Hainer and me. We are all very close and exchange ideas a lot and have an extremely good relationship. However, there are things that are worth discussing. Then everyone has many interviews. Then both use a word that was never meant to be malicious. I’ve never taken it that badly. You just have to see what effect it has. And of course I’m happy when Oli has classified it correctly. We would all do well to convey this bond, which we all live in the club, to the outside world through talks. Because it is like that and it is a lived connection. So I’m glad the issue is closed. It wasn’t as big in my head now as it might have been made out to be. Again, I don’t have a problem with any of these protagonists. But on the contrary. We are all very satisfied working closely together and we all have one interest: to let Bayern Munich be as successful as possible.”

Thomas Müller (FC Bayern) after the game over …

… the game: “I haven’t seen much, I have to admit. The minutes that I noticed we played well. It is not a matter of course to play games in the Champions League with so many goals and such dominance. Of course we conceded two more goals from the back, but we keep getting ourselves into situations where we dominate games like that – and I don’t think that’s something that should be taken for granted.”

… getting into the round of 16: “It’s obviously great to get through. We’re at the top after four games, we’ve had a flawless record against goals so far and we’ve got 13 goals. In this group: I would say chapeau if I had to take my hat off to our troops myself.”

… his injury: “It’s nothing bad from my point of view. It looks like a nerve thing. The old back. I hope of course. I’ll use the time and see what’s up. Don’t assume anything bad.”

… the important game against Freiburg: “Game means little for Sunday. I expect from us and believe that we don’t need so much psychological support from individual results. At least that’s my approach. We should know what’s inside of us. We’ve shown it often enough – and we’ve shown it several times this year. We know about the results in the Bundesliga. We also partly know how they came about. And of course, with these negative results in the Bundesliga, we also have our stocks where we didn’t do things well. But I don’t feel that we need to be unsure or need a good result to go into Sunday with a good feeling. We have a home game against Freiburg, we know who we are – and we’re trying to bring that to the pitch. It will be very important that we win the game. We will do everything we can and see what we can get with it.”

… his changed position: “I’ve played up front two or three times now. I scored a goal against Leverkusen and won. Scored a goal today, won. I can not complain. We’ll see!”

Sven Ulreich (FC Bayern) after the game over…

… the game: “We played a great first half and didn’t miss a beat. In the second half we didn’t do enough, it was unnecessary. Of course we wanted to keep a clean sheet. We have to work on that, we have some catching up to do there.”

… a possible mission on Sunday: “At Manu we look from day to day. I’m used to this situation.”

Leon Goretzka (FC Bayern) after the game over…

… his marksmanship in recent games: “It’s a beautiful snapshot. But I don’t expect it to continue like this.”

… the sluggishness that returned in the second half: “If we knew, we would turn it off. We conceded two goals again today. This is not good.”

… the victory: “It was very important to march in the right direction again straight away. After Dortmund we received a lot of criticism again.”

Oliver Kahn (CEO FC Bayern) before the game about …

… his freak out after Modeste equalized BVB: “I think I found my composure very quickly. If you lose a game in the 94th minute, you can get angry.”

… his tasks: “When I feel like I need to step in, I step in. That’s part of my job. In the beginning I took it a little easier. I’m someone who is generally more reserved. But there are moments when the footballer in me comes out again. That brings back old feelings.”

… Julian Nagelsmann: “There is absolutely no doubt about his work. I take note of these discussions. It’s not about age, it’s about quality. Julian has incredible quality. We are still totally convinced of him. I’m also learning every day. It’s not a question of experience or age. It’s something special at FC Bayern. It doesn’t matter whether you’re 35 or 65, every trainer has to get used to it a bit here. That Julian doesn’t have any experience, well… I really wonder where that came from. This discussion is almost ludicrous. At Bayern, things are always brought in from the environment. We’re used to that. Every coach had phases here when it was more difficult. We are going through this bumpy phase now.”

… the partly irrelevant criticism of Julian Nagelsmann: “You can discuss the content. Going on a personal level and then starting with the outfit or something… It doesn’t have to be. Let’s stay on the football level. We are also totally open to criticism.”

… the challenging game plan: “We need an extremely broad squad this season. Everyone will be used. This season is brutal. We play a rhythm that has it all.”

Julian Nagelsmann (FC Bayern coach) before the game about …

… the preparation: “It didn’t all happen by itself. We still have a little choice. Sadio will play on the wing again, Thomas in the middle.”

… Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: “He trained very well, I told him that. Thomas is playing the first half today, but we’ll react at half-time if everything goes normally. I feel sorry for him, but we have to make a decision.”

… communication with his players: “You have to get a sense of who needs a conversation. But you don’t have to explain yourself a hundred times either. The players memorize every word.”

… the premier class: “The Champions League is currently good for the soul. It’s an extremely difficult group. We want to get some rest for Sunday with this game. The game is extremely important for us.”

… the opponent: “I can imagine that they play braver today. But I still assume that we will play against a deep opponent and have the ball a lot.”
