Latvian basketball player Aija Jurjāne scored 14 points in the Turkish championship match in Ankara on Saturday, helping Istanbul Galatasaray, represented by her and Ieva Pulvere, to win the Turkish championship game. “Galatasaray” defeated Ankara “Cankaya University” 76:62 (15:21, 22:22, 23:11, 16:8) on the road.
In the 25 minutes and 56 seconds spent on the field, Jurjāne made four out of six two-point shots, one out of three long-range shots and three out of five free throws, becoming the second most productive player in the team. She also had eight rebounds, three assists, one turnover, five fouls, and a team-worst +/- of -3 and an efficiency rating of 18.
Pulvere was not in the game application and did not go to the field. Kamile Nacickaite was the top scorer in the Istanbul team with 31 points. Tayasha Harris collected 21 points, six rebounds and five assists and errors for the home team.
With two wins in two games, the Istanbul club has risen to the top of the tournament table. “Galatasaray” took fifth place in the regular championship last season, but stopped in the first round of the elimination tournament.
