Julia Figueroa will fight for the bronze medal in -48 kilos

The Cordovan Julia Figueroa will fight for the bronze medal, in the -48 kilos categoryat the world judo championships that are being held in Tashkent.

Figueroa, exempt from the first fight in group D, defeated the Azerbaijani Leyla Aliyeva, the South Korean Hyekyeong Lee, and the Japanese Funa TonakiOlympic runner-up, to proclaim herself the winner of that group.

In the semifinals, the Andalusian lost against the German Katharina Menz and will fight for the bronze medal against the Italian Assunta Scutto.

Laura Martínez, in the same category, finished in ninth position. She won in the first round of group B against the Tunisian Oumaima Bedioui and the Chinese Zongying Guo to lose against the Japanese Natsumi Tsunoda.

Fran Garrigós, in the -60 kilos category, finished seventh. he competed in group B and was exempt from the first round, then beating the Turkish Salih Yildiz and the representative of the refugee team Mohammad Rashnonezhad, to fall to the Japanese Naohisa Takato. In the playoff, he lost to Kazakh Yeldos Smetov.
