Judo, 5 individual medals at the World Cup

Tomorrow Azzurri will be back on the Funchal mat for the team competition
Five medals, two of which are gold. This is the booty of the Italian judokas involved in the Judown World Championship being held in Funchal (POR).
The golds of Martina Tomba (-52 kg) and Davide Migliore (-60 kg) are the most prestigious results, especially the one obtained by the Sicilian able to beat the competition of the Poles Bielecki e Timothy. Silver medal for Mirco Brighi (-81 kg), also in this case in a podium completed by two Polish athletes: Liszcz (gold) e Szumski (bronze). We also bring home two bronze medals, in the most complex and participatory category of the World Championship, the -73 kg. Our team share the third step of the podium Francesco Verrengia e Andrea Forte. Regret for the Biella Verrengia, who pays dearly for the defeat in the first fight with Trepinski, in Poule B. Trepinski who would later become World Champion. Brunetto (-73 kg) thus remains the only Azzurro without medals.
On Sunday, starting at 11:00 Italian time, the matches valid for the team competition will take place. This competition represents a novelty in a World Cup, introduced after the positive experimentation carried out in 2021 during the Euro TriGames in Ferrara. Also in this circumstance there will be a duel between Italy and Poland. The Polish selection has been distinguished so far for an excellent level of preparation of the judokas, very competitive and also very young. An important testing ground for the national team selected by Paola Baroncelli together with Joshua Giglio e Chiara Meucci.
