Jonathan Villegas and Universidad Modelo are crowned at the FISU America Games

Editorial Office.- Guanajuato coach Jonathan Villegas was crowned double champion at the II FISU America Games, leading the men’s and women’s teams of Universidad Modelo.

The university team from Mérida, Yucatán, acted as local in the discipline of basketball in the University Pan American Games that are held in this city, which represents the first international tournament for the coach from Guanajuato, who also has the women’s team as first place of Division I in the ABE League.

In the women’s branch, in the final they defeated the United States 78-62, with a great performance by Mayra Gil, player of the Mieleras de Guanajuato in the Mexican Women’s Professional Basketball League, with 17 units, as well as Yuliana Morán and Diana Villa, Escaramuzas de Jalisco players.

On their way they beat Brazil 57-52, Argentina 70-65 and the United States 70-45 in the first phase. For the semifinals they beat Brazil again, now with a score of 73-57, while in the final they repeated the dose to the neighboring country to the north of Mexico.

For their part, in the men’s, they fell 73-57 to Colombia and then defeated Argentina 76-73. For the only semifinal they settled scores against the Colombians and beat them 71-70, and for the final they accounted for the Argentines again, now 63-61. Eliher Sánchez and Gabriel Díaz stood out.
