Itapecerica da Serra will host the South American Championship of Flag Football on December 3rd and 4th

Mayor Dr. Francisco Nakano, secretaries Geraldo Luís Pedroso (Sports and Leisure) and Romeu Nicolatti Tavares (Government and Culture) made a presentation of the event in partnership with the command of CBFA (Brazilian Confederation of American Football). The regional press, specialized media, councilors and other authorities followed an overview of this important tournament that the municipality will host, with institutional videos shown on a large LED screen, tables and details of the organization.

“The 1st South American Flag Football Championship is more than an event, it is the beginning of an era in the sports scene in Itapecerica. He will leave a very significant and unprecedented legacy here”, highlighted Dr. Nakano. The mayor recalled how important his training as a judoka was in his path to becoming head of the Executive Power and everything that an action of this proportion involves. for Dr. Nakano, “by hosting the tournament in December, all people who come to our city will have remarkable sensations that will stay in their memories forever, both for the event itself and for the experience lived in Itapecerica da Serra”.

An American Football enthusiast and the main person responsible for bringing South American football to the city, Geraldo Pedroso told how the partnership with the confederation came about and highlighted the growth of the sport in Brazil. “Nothing sells more than sport, in the sense of delivery, participation, enthusiasm, not just commercially. Where sport is installed, it brings prosperity”, said the municipal secretary.

Romeu Nicollatti explained how much the sporting experience is fundamental as a lesson in discipline, respect and training of people. He also reinforced the relevance of the tournament in the city. According to Romeu, “Itapecerica da Serra is working intensively to enter the national and international sports market, but fundamentally to welcome people from all over the world to get to know our hospitality”.

Afterwards, the president of the CBFA, Cristiane Kajiwara, and the director of National Teams of the confederation, William Zapparoli, explained the importance of the tournament for the sport in the country and detailed the format of the dispute. There will be three simultaneous championships: South American Men’s, disputed between Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Colombia; South American Women’s Championship, with Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Colombia; in addition to the Flag Football Regional, with teams from the regions of the country, plus the under-19 team.

During the ceremony, Mayor Dr. Nakano brought three other big news to the county. The installation of three Flag Football schools around the city in partnership with CBFA. The holding of the Brazilian stage of the Latin American Freestyle Longboard Championship, in November, at the Antônio Baldusco Gym. And the launch, next week, of the second 3×3 basketball training center of the National Basketball Association, at the João Galera Gym, in Parque Paraíso.

The press vehicles present asked questions about the peculiarities of Flag Football and the legacy for the municipality. The councilors praised the democratization of sports in the city and congratulated the work of the mayor and secretary Geraldo, who concluded: “the message we want to pass on is: Itapecerica is the home of sport”.
