Basketball and disability on the pitch at Bachelet in Oggiono
“We are looking for players and volunteers who can help us” declares Marcello Sala, one of the founders
OGGIONO – THEassociation “Carma 4 All” deals with inclusive basketball, allowing players with intellectual and relational disabilities to practice this wonderful sport. Founded by Carlo Meroni and Marcello Sala – former coach and instructor of the Basket Costa Masnaga – the association has two training groups, one in Oggiono and one in Arcore.
The Oggiono group is followed by the instructors Elisabetta Corengia and Carlo Meroni, and has about ten athletes with different disabilities, from autism to Down syndrome. The boys, in agreement with the UISP, play monthly tournaments against other Lombard teams.
“Our project allows these people to be able to play basketball, with a smile on their lips – declares Marcello Sala – it is nice to see how these people, with disabilities, manage to overcome their limits every time”.
The Oggiono group trains once a week in the Bachelet gym, on Thursdays at 5.15pm to 6.30pm. “We are always looking for new instructors and players – concludes Sala – and also for volunteers to help us in assisting the players on the pitch”.
