– Agri, what is your connection with sports, because you have probably never been an athlete?
– I can say that I am not an athlete, I am only a sports functionary. More precisely, I am a sports fan who has also taken on the duties of an official. I like sports, but I haven’t really practiced it myself. In his youth, there were some attempts, but it cannot be said that they were serious. I got to practice badminton the most, I also like cycling.
– The Stukan family are newcomers to Ogre. How did you become an Ogre?
– I was born in Riga, but together with my wife Anita, we became citizens of Ogre exactly 17 years ago, when our eldest son Kārlis was born. At first, the idea was that we would only live in Ogre for a while. Now we consider ourselves Ogres, we are Ogre patriots.
– And how did you get to the point where you can call yourself a sports official?
– It is related to children. Son Karlis started playing floorball, and it was obvious that he was good at this sport. My main idea was to give young floorball players a place to develop when they reach their teenage years. At that time, the team “Ogres Vilki” played in the Premier League, but without much success. My vision was that the system of this team should be arranged so that there is some kind of budget, so that the players are clear about what the club will give them, what the club’s management expects from the players. I became a representative of the team. I am familiar with Ilvi Pētersonas, president of the Latvian Floorball Union, who was interested in the development of floorball in Ogre. He brought me together with floorball specialist Yuriy Fedulov, who taught us a lot about what happens in other clubs. That’s how I started working on organizing the floorball farm, our task was to make floorball at least the third most popular sport in Ogre.
– I know that you are also in the Sports Development Consultative Commission of Ogre Region.
– I was recommended to work in the commission by the parents of young floorball players, so that I could represent the interests of floorball there.
– In many competitions, you can be seen in the ranks of the fans?
– Yes, I am interested in floorball at all levels, I am a fan of Ogre, Lielvārde and Kocēni teams. I also follow the hockey and basketball championships, as well as the athletics competitions in which my children compete.
