The road career of Iljo Keisse is not quite over yet. He started on Tuesday in Putte-Kapellen, the end of the Belgian cycling season. The 39-year-old East Fleming will say goodbye to professional cycling after this season. In the end, the victory did not go to a busy Iljo Keisse, but to Arne Marit.

“Small unexpected change in my schedule,” Keisse wrote on his social media last night (a little after 4 o’clock). “I will stop on November 24 in Ghent, but tomorrow I will start in Putte-Kapellen.” It is not yet clear why Keisse decided to start. The timing of his communication is striking.

However, everyone thought, including Keisse himself, that he had already completed his last road race last Sunday (Kempen Classic), together with Stijn Steels and Mark Cavendish who will start from Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl.

On November 24, Keisse will be officially waved goodbye on the cycling track of ‘t Kuipke in Ghent with a real event. The week before, he still participates in the Six Days.
