The starter of the New York Yankees, Néstor Cortés, is clear about who should be the next captain of the team: Aaron Judge. If the slugger returns to the Bronx Bombers next season, he should set an example for everyone in the clubhouse.
“Aaron Judge means everything to us. I think I am capable of saying that if he comes back next year he should be our captain. He is our captain and he should be the next official captain of the organization,” Cortes said.
The Yankees have been without a captain since Derek Jeter left the team in 2014, making Judge the 16th captain in franchise history.
“We all follow the example he sets. He leads by example. He’s not the type of player to lead by yelling at people, but if he does we know it’s his job. He’s earned the right to keep us all focused.” he continued.
Judge, the favorite for AL MVP, finished the regular season leading the league in runs scored (133), home runs (62), RBIs (131), walks received (111), on-base percentage (.425), slugging percentage ( .686), OPS (1,111), adjusted OPS (211) and total bases (391) of the young circuit.
“Aaron is a great player, but he is a better human being. He treats everyone the same. We follow his example every day,” Cortes said.
