BOLASPORT.COM – The Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, are currently ranked second in the world behind Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi (Japan).
Previously, since March 16 2017, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo had been ranked first in the world for a total of 214 weeks.
Even so, the Indonesian men’s doubles coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi (Herry IP) is optimistic, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo will be able to improve their ranking at the end of the 2022 competition calendar.
“After dropping their rankings, they are in the spotlight. Of course there is a strategy after that, but more or less people already know because they often meet Marcus / Kevin. The opponent has studied their strengths and weaknesses,” said Herry IP when met by BolaSport.com at the Cipayung National Training Center, Jakarta. .

“Now it’s just a matter of playing on the field. The strategy is much more important. In my opinion, the strategy is much more important in the first and second games. Sometimes the strategy is prepared before the match.”
“World players compete every day, of course, there are changes. For young players, their abilities will definitely increase because they practice continuously. What is much more important is strategy when playing,” said Herry.
“What do we do, what is the strategy. We look at the facts on the ground, sometimes the strategies we make on the field in practice do not meet because the enemy can also change strategy. So, we have to set strategies on the field.”
Reasons behind Hoki/Kobayashi’s rise in world level include:
having won the 2021 World Championships, the 2021 Denmark Open, the 2021 Indonesia Masters, and the 2021 BWF World Tour Finals.
In 2022, Hockey/Kobayashi also won the Thailand Open and Malaysia Open.
