HATO MAYOR – The Queens, champions of the National Basketball League

The Queens of the East were crowned champions of the National Women’s Basketball League (LNBF) 2022 this Sunday afternoon, after beating the Indies 65-57 (20-10, 16-13, 18-18, 11-16). del Sur and thus conquered the title at their home, the José Monegro Sports Center, in Hato Mayor.

Jinnifer Jiménez had 19 points, four rebounds and six assists to lead the attack for the Queens who won the series 2-1 against the Indies. Angie Hodge added 18, eight rebounds and three steals, Sugeiry Monsac scored 12 points and owned the paint with 20 rebounds, eight of which were offensive.

“We have to thank God for giving us the victory in our town. Proud and happy to win the championship”; pointed out Jiménez, setter and captain of the Hato Mayor team. “Right now we’re in a caravan, it’s raining, but we don’t stop at that,” she added.

The Cuban reinforcement, Rachel Contreras collaborated with 9 points and 11 rebounds and Fátima Marte 7 and 6.

Julady Zapata, captain of the Indies scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds, reinforcement Bexy Claro 12 and 15 rebounds, Mary Cuevas 11 and Wendy Castillo 10.

The Queens dominated the scoreboard at all times and were ahead by 17 points.

“Thanks to the Lord who gave us the strength for this victory. A pleasure and an honor to be part of the team”, said Monsac, who played as a backup in the final. She is a member of the Eagles of Guachupita. “They had reached the final and had stopped halfway, now we are champions”, a trophy they win for the first time.

Susu, as Monsac is known, celebrated as long as she could, then left the group. “Let them enjoy it as much as they can, because I’m tired, what I want is to eat and sleep,” said the player.

Giving thanks for obtaining the crown, Jiménez had a spiritual meaning, but also added the support of Senator Cristóbal

He dedicates his championship to God and to the senator of his Hato Mayor province, where the Queens are from. “I thank God and Senator Cristóbal Castillo that, if it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t be celebrating,” Jiménez said.
