Golden brooch in the Evita and emotional dedication to the kid from Neuquén boarding school

Happy ending in Mar del Plata for the Neuquén delegation at the Evita Games, which closed with a full orchestra. And to the sports “golden brooch” emotion was added by a special dedication from the boys to a young local athlete who experienced a traumatic situation during the competition and is recovering in a sanatorium in the host city of the traditional event.

But let’s go part. On the one hand, beach handball made history in the closing by obtaining the gold medal in men after beating the province of Buenos Aires 2-0.

The discipline that made its debut in this edition also had the girls as protagonists as they achieved the silver medal by losing to the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. To complete an unforgettable day of this discipline, in the indoor modality, the U-14 male school team won the bronze.

In the successful closing of the contest, the other gold medal of the day was won by Máximo Rettig in badminton. The closing day also brought more celebrations in combat sports, handball and climbing.

Thus, after six years, Neuquén once again has a gold medal in the collective sports of the traditional competition.

In 2016 it had been the Independiente 3×3 basketball in the U-14 category and, this time, it was the U-16 beach handball with the IFES boys who beat the province of Buenos Aires with partial 15-14 and 13-12. Meanwhile, the girls, in the previous game that was also played at Bristol beach, lost to CABA 13-8 and 14-13.

The emotional dedication

The day had an emotional touch since all the members of the team dedicated the achievement to Manuel Funes, the young man who fell out of balance during one of the games and had to be admitted to the local hospital as an emergency, where he was later operated on for a lung condition of which continues to evolve.
