Gmarket “Sports goods sales surged up to 11 times compared to the previous year”



Gmarket announced on the 9th that the sales of outdoor sports-related products in September increased up to 11 times compared to the same period last year. Gmarket explained that sports goods sales also increased as demand for sports increased in response to the endemic.

Among sporting goods, sales of baseball equipment stood out. Gmarket explained that sales of all baseball equipment increased by 80%. Baseball bags increased by 160% and baseball bats increased by 46%. Sales of catcher equipment more than doubled to 124%. Sales of baseball apparel and miscellaneous goods, such as baseball caps (102%), baseball uniforms (509%), and baseball undershirts (722%), grew by 235% overall. As demand for intuition at the baseball field increased, sales of cheering supplies also increased by 185%.

Sales of sporting goods for group ball games also surged. Sales of all soccer-related items rose 45%. Goalkeeper gloves sold 95% more. Soccer socks and stockings and soccer gloves increased by 142% and 125%, respectively. Futsal shoes increased by 281% and soccer vests increased by 123%. At the same time, football products such as foot ball nets and props (43%), foot shoes (106%), and foot balls (182%) also grew by 110% overall.

Sales of tennis and badminton equipment also increased significantly. Tennis apparel sales surged 1000%, and tennis bags sold 198% more. Badminton clothes increased by 195% and badminton shoes by 90%. Badminton bags and rackets sold 120% and 57% more, respectively. Sales of squash racquets and squash protective glasses also surged 176% and 600%, respectively.

Ahead of the endemic winter, sales of ski and snowboard equipment also increased by 75%. Snowboard Tech and Snowboard Binding each sold 50% more. Snowboard boots increased by 500% and ski plates increased by 200%. The popularity of ski clothes and ski miscellaneous goods such as board bottoms (260%), ski tops (68%), ski suit sets (150%), and ski/board socks (148%) also rose.

An official from Gmarket said, “As we enter the first FW season since the endemic, demand for various outdoor sports and outings is increasing. It’s selling wildly across sectors,” he said.
