From Champions League Champion to Former, Top 3 Goalkeepers Mike Maignan for AC Milan

Claudio Bravo could be an option for Italian League club AC Milan to become Mike Maignan’s new deputy at the goalkeeper post.

INDOSPORT.COM – Since his arrival from Lille last season, Mike Maignan, has been very instrumental for AC Milan, including giving the 2021/2022 Italian League (Serie A) trophy.

It’s just that the French goalkeeper seems to be quite vulnerable to what is called an injury.

In his debut season, Maignan was sidelined for more than a month due to a shoulder problem, but fortunately the domestic title did not escape AC Milan’s hands.

In his second year at the San Siro, the 27-year-old stopper has even suffered two consecutive calf injuries since mid-September and is only expected to recover after the turn of the year.

This means that Maignan will miss the 2022 World Cup which should be his first World Cup considering his senior debut with France only two years ago.

It’s just that France still doesn’t need to worry because they have enough stock of top-notch goalkeepers, namely Hugo Lloris, Alphonse Areola, to Albant Lafont and Steve Mandanda.

It’s a different story with AC Milan because their options are limited. When Mike Maignan had to step aside, only Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante were left.

When they were young, they were both good goalkeepers. However, at the age of those who have passed from 36 years there is a drastic decline in performance.

In the Italian League, Tatarusanu can still lead the Rossoneri to win three times since Maignan’s absence, but when facing more established teams in the Champions League such as when they met Chelsea (twice) five goals went straight into the net.

For that, AC Milan seems to need to evaluate their reserve goalkeeper sector. These three players seem suitable to be approached in the upcoming 2023 winter transfer market.
