French basketball star responds to criticism after joining Russian team

Thomas Heurtel had a withering message to his detractors after joining Zenit St. Petersburg

French basketball player Thomas Heurtel hit back after receiving criticism for joining Russian team Zenit St. Petersburg, telling fans that he “he doesn’t give a shit” about kickback.

Heurtel, 33, joined Zenit in September shortly after helping France to a silver medal at the European Championships.

The point guard moved to Russia despite the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) stating in August that any player who chooses to join Russian teams will no longer be considered for national team selection.

After posting a photo of himself on social media in Zenit’s training kit over the weekend, Heurtel came under fire in the comments section.

But the star, who also helped France to silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, made his sentiments loud and clear.

“Just for your information to all the people who send me messages or write comments criticizing me for my decision to come to Russia or my decision in general, know that I don’t give a shit, so don’t regret it and stop wasting your time. And please find yourself a life! Thanks in advance,” Heurtel wrote on Instagram Stories.

Heurtel has spent his career with teams in France, Spain and Turkey, and left Real Madrid in June, reportedly after a dispute over disciplinary matters.

He joined Zenit on a one-year deal with the option of a one-year extension.

The 6-foot-2 guard has played two games for Zenit so far in the Russia-based VTB United League.
