“I’m going to upset the whole of Belgium, but at the moment I don’t see Remco Evenepoel or Wout van Aert able to break Ganna’s world hour record,” said ex-record holder Alex Dowsett (Israel-Premier Tech).

Filippo Ganna swept Dan Bigham’s world hour record from the tables last weekend. The Italian covered no less than 56,792 km in one hour in Grenchen, Switzerland. 1,244km more than Bigham, who took the record from Victor Campenaerts earlier this year.

Dowsett, who was the fastest for a while in 2015, was impressed by Ganna. “We all know what Ganna is capable of, but I was very surprised that he did so much better,” the Briton told Velo News. “I thought Ganna’s size would hinder him more than it did, but it was great to see him prove otherwise. This is close to the limit of human achievement,” Dowsett continues his hymn.

Although he currently sees no one doing better than Ganna. Also brand new world champion Remco Evenepoel or Wout van Aert. “I’m going to upset the whole of Belgium, but at the moment I don’t really see anyone sharpening their record. Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel are both strong time trialists, but they do not have the same experience on the track as Ganna. If Evenepoel were to focus on track cycling in the near future, then I might see him forcing something because of his natural aereodynamics. Even if that’s just a wild guess,” Dowsett said.
