For the first time in history, a Filipino player signs in Europe

Newly created Lithuanian club BC Wolves have announced the signing of Juan Gomez de Liano (1.85m, 22), the first Filipino player to play in Europe.

His name is Juan Gomez de Liano. His name doesn’t tell you anything, but he has already made history by becoming the first basketball player from the Philippines to sign in Europe. He signed up with BC Wolves, the Lithuanian team in which Frenchman Hugo Invernizzi plays.

MVP at the university level then passed by Japan, the combo-guard is already a celebrity in his country, with which he made his debut in the national team (12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists for 12 .3 rating in three matches).

“We want to grow our fan base outside of Lithuania. We hope Juan will help us reach the Philippine basketball fan market,” BC Wolves President Rimantas Kaukenas explained in the club statement.

The Philippines, a nation of 110 million people, has made basketball their number one sport for many years. Is this movement the first of a long line?
