Football Italy – Controversy in Italy, what happened in the stands of San Siro?

This Saturday evening, Inter easily disposed of Sampdoria (3-0) in Serie A. But a major event in the stands disrupted the meeting.

Inter chained a fourth success in a row in Serie A this Saturday evening by beating Sampdoria at home. Simone Inzaghi’s men are back in form after a difficult start to the season. Qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League and again in the race for the podium in Serie A, the Lombard club nevertheless had to face an unfortunate scene in its stands. Indeed, the Curva Nord of Inter has decided to leave the bays of Giuseppe Meazza after learning of the death of one of its historic leaders, Vittorio Boiocchi, who died by bullets. This event occurred in Figino, a town west of Milan. Boiocchi, a historic member of the Boys San, was ambushed on Fratelli Zanzottera Street.

Force used, families shocked

The Gazzetta dello Sport managed to give some details about the tragedy that occurred. The daily states in particular: “After five pistol shots, Boiochhi died while being transported to San Carlo Hospital in Milan. The one who was already at the head of the ultras of Inter in the 80s was followed closely by the authorities, being in particular obliged to stay two kilometers away from the stadium. Vittorio Boiocchi returned three years ago to the head of Curva Nord, after serving a 26-year prison sentence for theft and drug trafficking. The departure of the Inter tifosi from the Curva Nord this Saturday evening in the middle of the meeting was not, however, calm. Testimonies on social networks indicate that some ultras used force to convince others to leave the stands. Blows were said to have been struck, and families in tears could not hide their dismay. An Inter supporter, one of the 8,000 people forced to leave the Inter compound, said: “I had never seen that, the most fundamental freedoms have been violated”. It remains to be seen how Inter will react in the coming hours, following the chaos that reigned in their stadium on Saturday. The Italian government has in any case just announced that it was going to take up this case.
