Ferrari drivers: “A minute behind Verstappen is not good” – F1journaal.be

At the Mexican GP, both Ferrari drivers finished in fifth and sixth place. Sainz and Leclerc never came close to the podium, let alone the victory.

“We knew that this weekend, with this car, with a track at this altitude, we would lose a little bit of performance,” said Sainz. “We were just too far away.”

Despite the large gap to Max Verstappen, there was a positive aspect to the race for Sainz. After two retirements in a row, Sainz managed to finish again.

“We were a minute behind Verstappen, but I haven’t driven a decent race in a month, so it was nice to be able to do that again, a race in which we managed our speed.”

Teammate Charles Leclerc also drove a somewhat lonely race, away from the spotlights and TV cameras.

“This race felt like an outsider, a race with different conditions and I hope we can get back to normal speed in Brazil,” said Leclerc.

“I feel we got the most out of it and despite doing that we are still a minute away from Max, which is a serious difference.”

“We’ll have to see what’s causing this and improve ourselves, especially on Sunday, this was a really bad day.”
