Félix Auger-Aliassime is champion in Florence

Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime won his second title on the ATP Tour on Sunday in Florence, defeating American JJ Wolf in two sets of 6-4 and 6-4.

It was a break in the fifth game of the second set that made the difference in the score in favor of “FAA”, who became the first Canadian since Milos Raonic, in 2013, to win two ATP tournaments in the same year.

Auger-Aliassime had previously lost his first eight finals before opening his counter earlier this year. He then defeated the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in Rotterdam. The 13th racket in the world thus shows a record of 2-9 in the career in the final matches.

“I’m very happy, you never get tired of winning,” he said on the pitch, according to comments reported by the ATP website. It’s always like it’s the first time. It’s so special.”

True to form, Auger-Aliassime used his serve to muzzle his opponent. He has indeed won 85% of exchanges with his first ball and slammed 11 aces. It is also with this weapon that he put an end to the meeting.

However, the match had started badly in this chapter for him since he was broken in his first game with the balls in hand. If he gave in on the first break point, he nevertheless made sure afterwards not to give his opponent the slightest opportunity.

Auger-Aliassime came into this ATP 250 tournament as a favorite, and the logic was respected. But the main interested party needed all his efforts to triumph, and this victory should allow him to return to the top 10 in the world.

“There is no magic, he argued. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but of course I’m really happy because I came here [comme] the first seed. I was the favorite in all my matches on paper. It’s never an easy position, so to go out and win my four games with confidence and conviction is really good for my confidence.
