Felice Albers best hockey player in the world: ‘Incredibly proud’ | Sport

Albers became world champion this year with the Dutch hockey players and last year she had already won the Olympic and European title with the Orange. She debuted in the summer of 2019 in Orange. She has now played 32 international matches and was accurate sixteen times.

“I am very pleased to be the winner of this award. I want to thank everyone who voted for me and supported me over the past year. As a little girl I dreamed of playing hockey for the Dutch national team. The fact that I have now been named the best player in the world makes me incredibly proud,” Albers wrote on Instagram.

“This dream would never have come true without the help of my amazing teammates and staff and of course the support from all of you. Thank you for everything and keep believing in your dreams no matter how young you are!”

Albers received 29.1 percent of the votes from the experts, fans, media and teams. With that, she just trumped the Argentine María José Granatto (26.9 percent). Agustina Gorzelany, also an Argentine, came third in the election. Frédérique Matla came in fourth, with 16 percent of the vote.

Thierry Brinkman

Among the men, the honorary title went to the Indian Harmanpreet Singh. He received 29.4 percent of the vote, just slightly more than Thierry Brinkman (23.6 percent).

On Thursday, Janneke Schopman was already voted best coach of the year for the women. She is in charge of the hockey players of India.
