Ex-striker Agüero commits himself: Erling Haaland will be bigger than Lionel Messi – FOOTBALL

Big words from a big striker!

Ex-ManCity attacker Sergio Agüero (34) believes that miracle striker Erling Haaland (22) could become taller than seven-time world footballer Lionel Messi (35)!

Agüero in an interview with the betting provider “Stake”: “Haaland has strength, athleticism and a special instinct for goals, which makes him very dangerous. He’s got what it takes to keep racking up amazing stats, especially being part of an attacking team like City.”

And further: “That in turn means many chances to score. He’s young and has a lot of potential to keep breaking records. He could be better than Messi, but consistency will be important.”

Agüero, at the young age of 22, already ranks Haaland in a row with star strikers such as Brazilian Ronaldo (46), Diego Maradona († 60), Zlatan Ibrahimović (41), Romário (56), Robert Lewandowski (34) or also Lionel Messi.

Justified: After all, the “Torweger” Haaland, at the age of 22, has already snapped 20 times in 13 games for ManCity and has already snapped a total of 155 times in his young career.

“I can imagine that there are many strikers who are worthy of awe. One of my favorites was Ronaldo, who consistently proved himself to be a full-packer and a menace in front of goal. Each era usually has two or three players with this ability – and usually with different styles: Diego Maradona, Romario, Lewandowski, Ibrahimović and of course Leo! Each had their own flair, but they were all excellent scorers. And Haaland will be the next superstar,” Agüero is certain.

Agüero himself had to end his career at FC Barcelona in mid-December 2021 due to cardiac arrhythmia. Before that, however, he had an impressive career.

At the age of 18, the Argentinian dared to make the leap to Europe to join Atlético Madrid in 2006 and experienced his breakthrough there as a dangerous centre-forward, who then moved to the current Haaland club ManCity in 2011 for 40 million euros.

And there he would quickly become a legend: in his ten years with the “Skyblues”, the Argentine won five Premier League titles and snapped a total of 260 times in 390 games.

Every City fan should remember the ultimate last-minute goal (90+3) against Queens Park Rangers (3-2) on the last day of the 2011/12 Premier League season. There, Messi’s friend shot ManCity to their third English championship in a long-distance duel with city rivals Manchester United – both started the last matchday with the same number of points.

His legendary celebration of his championship goal can now even be admired in the form of a statue in front of the Etihad Stadium. It was presented to the public in May 2022.
