The locals pressed the accelerator after the break to knock down the Alcantarilla team, who could not surprise like in La Seu

R. D. THE PALMS.

The Hozono Global Jairis suffered the first defeat of the season of its debut in the Endesa Women’s League, after falling yesterday against Spar Gran Canaria, at the La Paterna Sports Center. Those of Alcantarilla were measured against a rival who was looking to add the first victory of the campaign at home, after falling during his visit to Perfumerías Avenida. Another difficult clash was on the cards, although the Jairista precedent could not be more flattering, after defeating Cadí La Seu against the odds in the Murcian women’s debut in the highest category of Spanish women’s basketball.

Lucas Fernández started with Claudia Contell, Belén Arrojo, María Bettencourt, Melisa Brcaninovic and Tamara Seda. The first few minutes were marked by the visitor’s mistake, giving rise to a 10-2 start that forced time-out, with a special role for the local Sika Koné. The lead was extended to 10 points after the break (12-2), but it was then that Jairis responded, with a 0-10 run sealed with a spectacular triple by Alejandra Sánchez. The result varied slightly before the end of the first quarter, with local advantage (14-12).

the first triple

Koné, Fall and Holesinka did a lot of damage to the Murcian team, who missed Érika de Souza’s points

Gran Canaria scored its first triple during the first stages of the second quarter (19-15), trying to increase the lead, although the answer kept coming from Jairis, who took the lead just four minutes before the break (21-22 ). Arrojo continued the comeback and established a 2-9 run, forcing the local timeout at 3:36 to finish the fourth.

A triple by Holesinka equalized the score, and in the end he repeated his success in the following attack (27-24). Meanwhile, Contell missed the two free throws with subsequent possession for the visiting team, which also ended up being wasted. The last ones followed one another with little success on either side of the field, giving rise to a few last seconds with the option of going ahead for the visitors. Lizarazu’s distant triple did not enter, culminating the first half with 27-26.

Equality continued to prevail after the restart, with Spar Gran Canaria maintaining a reduced lead that Érika de Souza was in charge of finishing already after the halfway point of the fourth (34-34). Gran Canaria opened the gap again with a run of 5-0 (39-35) and Lucas Fernández stopped the match to try to reassemble the team before finishing the penultimate episode of the game.

Brcaninovic approached Jairis, but Koné kept going, leaving with 12 points (41-37). Bettancourt fouled Holesinka, offering her the chance to take three free throws, and the Czech did not fail, adding 18 points to her locker and taking the local lead to seven points (44-37) heading into the fourth quarter.

It was key to reduce the distance as soon as possible. This was not the case in the first few minutes, with Gran Canaria reaching a nine-point lead with 6:37 remaining (48-39). Vittoria Blasigh then propitiated the highest local income, with a difference of 11 points (50-39), counting just six minutes for the culmination. The comeback was difficult at times, but the sewer team did not lower their arms, establishing a partial 0-5 to reduce the distance to six points (50-44), with José Carlos Ramos timeout with 4:02 of the culmination .

Redmon practically killed the clash with a new triple (58-48). The unsportsmanlike behavior of Alejandra Sánchez was taken advantage of by Holesinka to add two new points from the free throw (60-48). The precipitation in search of a fleeting comeback caused the increase in the Canarian income to 14 points (64-50) already made up at the last minute by the Murcians to leave the final difference at eight points (64-56). El Jairis opens this Sunday at home against Embutidos Pajariel (8:00 p.m.).
