Edwards scores 34 in Timberwolves win over Spurs

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) — Anthony Edwards scored 34 points and backup guard Jaylen Nowell added 23 for the Minnesota Timberwolves in a 134-122 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.

Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 points for Minnesota, which rebounded after losing at home to San Antonio 115-106 on Monday. Jalen McDaniels had 20 points for the Timberwolves, who made a season-high 20 3-pointers.

Keldon Johnson finished with 27 points for the Spurs, who were without shooting guards Devin Vassell and Josh Primo due to injuries. Doug McDermott chipped in 19 points.

After scoring just nine points on Monday, Edwards promised a better performance and came out with more energy, scoring 16 points and five 3-pointers.

Minnesota entered the game as one of the league’s worst 3-point shooting teams, shooting just 28.7% for the season. The Wolves were averaging 9.8 3-pointers per game and set a franchise record with 10 in the first quarter on Wednesday.

They finished 20-for-34 shooting (58.8%) from 3-point range.

Minnesota led as many as 17 points, but San Antonio mounted a furious offense again in the third quarter, just like on Monday. The Spurs scored 41 points in the period, including 13 by Johnson, to pull within 80-75 at one point.

But this time the Wolves didn’t back down.
