Donovan Carrillo, winner of the 2022 State Sports Award

León, Gto.- Donovan Daniel Carrillo Suazo, from the artistic ice skating discipline, was the winner by majority of votes of the 2022 State Sports Award in the category of conventional athlete.

The skater obtained this distinction for his outstanding participation in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, where he obtained twenty-second place, also becoming the first Mexican to qualify for a final in this discipline.

Added to these achievements are the first places in the 2021 national championship, held in Mexico City, and in the 2022 Ice Games in Puebla, as well as the eighth place in Skating Clasicc in New York.

It should be noted that Donovan Carrillo represented Jalisco until a few months ago, however, he was able to earn this award because he has lived in León for six years for his training, so he meets the requirement that marks the call for at least three years of residence in the state.

For two and a half hours, the qualifying jury made up of athletes, associations, journalists and sports authorities in Guanajuato, reviewed 39 proposals that this year presented sports associations, institutes and coaches as candidates for the award in the different categories.

A work session behind closed doors that was held at the Macrocentro Deportivo León 1, from where little by little the winners of the State Award were revealed.

Isabel Huitrón Ángeles, a judoka with a hearing disability, was chosen as deserving of the award. Among her main achievements are the first places obtained during her participation in the World Judo Championships in Versailles, France; the National Prof. Gabriel Goldsmith and in the Deaflympics of Caxias, Brazil.

In the conventional coach category, the award went to Pedro Alberto González Cerino for his achievements in the weightlifting discipline, including fifth place for the women’s team and tenth place for the men’s team at the World Championship held in Saudi Arabia, as well as as the first places of both branches in the Pan American under 20 in Guadalajara and the first place for the women’s team in the CONADE National Games.

Daniel Merced Granados Celedón Para Judo coach, was chosen to receive the part of the merit award attributed to the conquests of Isabel Huitrón, in addition to two silver and two bronze medals achieved by Sergio del Sol during the Pan American Tour held between August and September in Ecuador, Colombia , Dominican Republic and Peru, as well as 8 medals in the Prof. Daniel F. Hernández National Judo tournament.

In the category of Promotion, protection or impulse to the practice of sports, César Manuel Martínez García received the support of the majority of the jury for his intervention for the participation of Guanajuato in the World Cup for the Deaf in Versailles and the Deaflympics in Brazil, among other achievements.

The jury was made up of sports journalists Néstor Galindo, Pablo Mascorro and Francisco Vela; the sports associations were represented by Ernesto Ayala González from Gymnastics and Cinthia Quilo González from Triathlon.

Runner Laura Galván, 2020 state sports award, was part of the jury, as was coach Iván Pérez Alanís, 2016 state award; On behalf of CODE, Francisco Mosqueda Ortega, coordinator of Villa Grandeza del Deporte, Luis Fernando Arenas in presentation of the Directorate of Research and Sports Medicine, as well as Romualdo Hernández, Director of Sports, participated.

The winners of the State Sports Award in the athlete categories will receive an economic prize of 27,500 pesos each, the winners in the category of conventional and adapted trainers, 20,000 pesos, and in the category of Promotion, protection or impulse to the practice of sports, 15 thousand pesos.
