Deportivo Cali defeated Corinthians in the debut of the Women’s Copa Libertadores

Deportivo Cali achieved a historic victory this Wednesday by defeating Corinthians 2-1 for the first date of the Women’s Copa Libertadores. Ingrid Guerra and Tatiana Ariza scored the goals to beat the Brazilian team.

In the first half the ‘Azucarero’ team came out to put pressure on the rival area. Jhon Albert Ortíz’s team was seen intending to harass the Corithians and not let them play.
However, in 10 minutes of play, Cali had only had two clear approaches to goal.

Despite the pressure that the Valle del Cauca team was exerting, at minute 15 the Brazilian team warned of danger in Stefany Castaño’s goal.
It was then in the 23rd minute that the first goal of the match came. Striker Victoria Albuquerque received a cross completely alone in the Verdiblanco area and calmly finished off with a header. Nothing to do for the Castaño goalkeeper.

Before the goal received by the ‘Azucarero’ team, the Valle del Cauca women reacted and recovered possession of the ball, but they did not build goal plays.

It was then in the 41st minute when the verdiblanco equalized. Deportivo Cali took a strong free kick from midfield and striker Ingrid Guerra headed the ball and sent it to save.

In this way, Cali gained confidence and tied the game. However, when the first half was about to end, the goal came to go on top of the scoreboard. In the 45th minute, the Caleñas created a great collective play. Ingrid Guerra won the baseline and commanded the center and that was when Tatiana Ariza received and with a great individual play she beat the Brazilian defender and finished off the corner. Thus they went 2-1 for the break.

In the second half Deportivo Cali was in charge of controlling the ball and did a very good defensive job. In this way, the verdiblanco debuted with victory against the current champions.
