DeChambeau is one step away from winning the Driving World Championship

Bryson DeChambeau was very close to achieving a feat in the world of golf. The Californian golfer was runner-up in the World Driving Championship. The striking thing about this is that it is a competition where the power of hitting prevails, something for which there were enormous specialists far superior to Modeste both in technique, power and experience. Despite this, DeChambeau was just one swing and 20 yards away from achieving the championship belt.

Against all odds, the winner of the US Open in 2020 and who currently competes in the Saudi LIV, was very close to achieving it in the decisive moments. The only one capable of overcoming him in Mesquite was the German Martin Borgmeier, who after the competition had words of appreciation for the American. “I wouldn’t be here, none of us would be here with the improvements in technology, if some guy hadn’t come along a year ago to make the sport what it is now. And I think he’s on a very good path to come back. And that guy is Bryson DeChambeau.”

DeChambeau went on to throw his ball 406 yards on his last hit, but the German achieved a superior one on his third ball, with 415 yards to surpass himself with another 426. With these marks he was proclaimed the World Cup winner. In a turbulent year for the North American, where he left the PGA Tour in favor of the Saudi circuit, DeChambeau returned to the Mesquite facilities where everything indicated that he would be “one more”.

But the surprise was huge when he got into the top eight, leaving out a two-time tournament champion like Kyle Berkshire, with a hit of 415 yards. In the next round, he managed to get past Justin James, last year’s runner-up, and Zack Holton, who hit a 435-yard knockout hit in the round of 16, the farthest of the day. In the penultimate round and with another 407-yard hit, he snuck into the final fagainst Borgmeier, who did the same with another 418-yard swing.

Finally, the German took the victory and with the prize of 50,000 dollars. He also had words of amazement at the level displayed by his rival: “Was in second place! What’s going on! That guy is a pro golfer and he’s putting up these ball speed numbers hitting over 400. No one has done that before, people don’t realize how crazy that is.”
