Colombian tennis made history at the 2022 South American Games

The colombian tennis has reason, and more than enough, to celebrate after the dispute of the South American Games 2022 that were played in Asunción. It is that in women’s tennis, Mafe Herazo and Yuliana Lizarazo capitalized on several medals in singles and doubles.

In individual Herazowho is currently ranked number 457 in the WTA world ranking, took the gold medal after defeating the Paraguayan in the final Verónica Cepede (30 years old, No. 304 in the world) 6-2 and 6-3.

Also added to the singles podium lizardwho got the bronze medal after winning the duel for third place against Paraguayan Leyla Britez Risso (17 years old, N°116 of the ITF junior ranking).

Finally, Herazo and Lizarazo also won the gold medal in doubles. The Colombian couple got rid of Brazil (Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Rebeca de Barros) by two sets against zero (6-3 and 6-4) in the grand final. This result of two golds and one bronze, with Colombia well up on the podiums, marks the best performance of the country in the history of these Games.
