Colombia second in the South American Games

Doubling the golden number of the day before, the Colombian delegation secured second place in the general medal table of the XII South American Games Asunción 2022, already with 21 golds, 18 silvers and 20 bronzes, escorting Brazil that reached 32 golds and ahead of Venezuela, which is second with seven golds.

When 20% of the total medal has been delivered, Colombia continues to be within the forecasts, already with medals in 14 sports disciplines, seven of them adding gold medals and racing skating as the most outstanding with six golds, four silvers and three bronzes.

Precisely speed skating gave the country this Monday the four gold medals that were in dispute, thanks to Fabriana Arias, Jacobo Mantilla, María Fernanda Timms and Steven Villegas. Two of these golds were one and two, with silvers for Andrés Felipe Gómez and Kollin Castro, and a bronze for Gabriela Rueda.

Weightlifting also had a perfect day, because Colombia won all three gold medals at stake, with Rosalba Morales, in the 55 kilograms; Yenny Álvarez, in the 59 kilograms, and Gustavo Maldonado, in the 81 kilograms.

In swimming diving, Colombia again won 100% of the gold, thanks to the Uribe brothers. Viviana Andrea won the 10 meter platform and Luis Felipe was first on the 3 meter springboard. Viviana was accompanied on the podium by Mariana Osorio with bronze and Luis was followed by Sebastián Morales with silver.

In archery and figure skating, Colombia kept 50% of the gold that was at stake. In archery, both men’s and women’s compound bow teams they climbed to the top of the podium, with two silver medals for the recurve bow teams. In figure skating, Brayan Carreño and Paulina Ruíz won gold, with a bronze from Daniela Genera.

The other Colombian gold of the day was won by Walter Vargas in the road cycling individual time trial, with a silver medal for Rodrigo Contreras from Cundinamarca and among the ladies Lina Marcela Hernández also took second place.
