Carolina Marin defeats Akane Yamaguchi to reach the women’s singles final

Paris, October 29: Rio 2016 Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin beat two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi 21-14, 21-18 to reach the women’s singles final at the 2022 French Badminton Championships here on Saturday. Marin, who needed 47 minutes to beat Japan’s Yamaguchi in the semi-finals, will face the winner between He Bingjiao of China and Tai Tzu Ying of Taipei of China in the final. After recovering from an ACL injury that prevented her from defending her Olympic title in Tokyo, the Spaniard won the European Championship title in April. On Sunday, she will aim for the 35th title of her career.

For the first time in two years, the 29-year-old will contest a World Tour Super 750 final. The last time she contested a BWF World Tour Super 750 final was in Odense, Denmark in October. 2020.

In his best victory since returning to the ring, Marin dominated throughout, varying the direction and speed of play towards an increasingly exhausted opponent.

Yamaguchi had halted Marin’s rise to the podium at recent tournaments, including August’s World Cup in Tokyo, but this time she beat the ringside player.
