Canadian Aliassime slips into eighth place after winning in Basel

Carlos Alcaraz and Rafa Nadal remain at the top of the ATP ranking for another week. The Murcian reached the semifinals of the ATP 500 in Basel, where he lost this Saturday against an Aliassime that continues unstoppable. For his part, Rafa Nadal continues second despite not having played in the last two months. The Spaniard will return to the courts to play the Masters 1,000 in Paris-Bercy, days before the Nitto ATP Finals to be played in Turin.

The Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime gained a new position in the ATP ranking published this Monday after winning his third consecutive title in Basel on Sunday and is already number 8, while the Russian Daniil Medvedev, winner in Vienna, recovers the podium. Auger-Aliassime, 22, continues his ascent after his titles in Florence and Antwerp. He is in eighth position, the best ranking of his career, which he had already achieved in August.

For his part, Medvedev climbs to third position to the detriment of Casper Ruud (N. 4), in a ranking that continues to be led by the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, followed by his compatriot Rafael Nadal. The Russian, a former world number 1, fell to fourth place in September after being eliminated in the round of 16 at the US Open.

The Pole Hubert Hurkacz ascends to the tenth position, removing the American Taylor Fritz from the ‘Top 10’. The Canadian Denis Shapovalov, gains three positions and reaches number 16. For his part, the Danish Holger Rune (19 years old), finalist in Basel against Auger-Aliassime, reaches the ‘Top 20’ thanks to a jump of seven positions .
