CALENZANO – A whole day to spend in the fourteenth century. Among ancient crafts, shows and dances, archery and military camps. The village of Calenzano Alto is preparing to host “Calenzano 1325. Siege of the Castle” on Sunday 9 October, with the historical re-enactment of the attack by Castruccio Castracani’s troops in Calenzano. The event is organized by the Municipality of Calenzano in collaboration with the Calenzano Tourist Association and the medieval Agresto association. The program includes the opening of the event at the Castle at 11, the departure of the historical procession with figures and flag-wavers from Piazza Vittorio Veneto and the arrival in Piazza San Niccolò at 12. Here there will be the show of the Alfieri and Musici della Valmarina and to follow the opening of the taverns for lunch.
At 3 pm show with medieval music and dances by the company “Novus Amor”, at 3.30 pm “La Corte in Giostra” show for young and old by Memento Ridi. At 4 pm the highlight with the historical re-enactment “Siege of the Castle” with all the Companies of Arms, in which the siege of the Lucca leader Castracani will be rebuilt. Following shows of dances and percussion, fakirism and fires and at 7 pm the Grand Master of Ceremonies and all the entertainment companies will greet the guests in the square. Throughout the day there will be artists, extras and itinerant musicians in the streets of the Castle, as well as merchants, ancient crafts and artisans at work; military camps, historical weapons, games and archery for children in the garden. The Historical Figurine Museum will be open for the day.

Calenzano has become part of the network of medieval municipalities and it is our intention to continue to enhance the castle and the village of Calenzano Alto, which are a historical and cultural wealth of our territory to be made known more and more “. “Two taverns with a medieval menu will be created in the castle garden and in Piazza San Niccolò – he says Niccolò Tahiti, president of the ATC – in collaboration with the Borgo Antico, Old River, Misericordia di Carraia and Cuochi Fiorentini associations. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to attend traveling shows and see figures at work ”.
