CAI and Sporting SM tied and their semifinal key will be defined in the second leg

Panama City, Oct 29 Sporting San Miguelito and Club Atlético Independiente de La Chorrera (CAI) tied at one goal this Saturday in the first leg of the first semifinal key of the Clausura 2022 tournament of the Panamanian Football League (LPF).

The CAI started with everything, looking for the spaces and opportunities that the San Miguelito team provided.

Despite the pressure of the visit, the first danger was for the home team, when at 9 minutes Tomás Rodríguez finished off, but the shot went wide of the rival goal.

Just three minutes later, on a free kick, Alexi Palacios opened the scoring, after a shot that deflected off a rival and slipped into the frame of Jorginho Frías.

With the 1-0, CAI slowed down a bit and left the ball to Sporting, who advanced lines to attack with everything.

Sporting again put danger in the 25th minute with a shot by José Muñoz, who was not directed at the goal.

At that time, the San Miguelito team played better, while CAI defended well and played on the counterattack.

At minute 42, Rodríguez had the tie in his boots, but the shot went wide.

The last of the first half was for Emmanuel Gómez, who with a soft shot almost scored the tie.

The second half started evenly, with both teams looking for the rival goal.

At minute 49, Palacios made it 2-0, but goalkeeper Frías blocked the shot and drowned out CAI’s shout of goal.

The other clear one to increase the score came at minute 69 with Kevin Meneses, with a shot far from the goal and Sporting was saved again.

Three minutes later, and after forgiving two clear chances on goal, Rodríguez steals a ball, reaches the final line, touches the center and Jorlian Sánchez with a soft touch sent it to the back of the net to put the tables 1-1.

Alejandro Yearwood, at minute 85, had the 2 for 1, but his header was stopped in two stages by Frías.

With the score tied at one, the duel ended and everything will be defined next weekend in the return duel in La Chorrera, west of the Panamanian capital, at the CAI home.

Both Felipe Borowski from Sporting San Miguelito and Franklin Narvaez from CAI finished the duel satisfied with the result.

“It was a match worthy of a semi-final, I think both teams tried to win,” said Brazilian Borowski.

He added that “the tie was fair and even” and that everything will be defined in La Chorrera.

Narvaez acknowledged that “the series is still open” and that “we got the result we wanted.”

“Now we have to propose a better game at home and follow the path we have outlined,” he said. EFE
