Borussia Dortmund cancels tour to Indonesia

Jakarta

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund confirmed that they had canceled their tour to Indonesia. Instead Die Borussen will fight Johor Darul Takzim (JDT).

Previously, representatives of Dortmund together with promoters of Nine Sport had announced a tour to Southeast Asia. Namely to Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia on November 21 – December.

It was announced that Dortmund would face two Indonesian clubs. Persib Bandung and Persebaya Surabaya were chosen as the opponents for the test match.

But that will not happen considering that Indonesian football is in a vacuum after the Kanjuruhan Tragedy. Currently, the football authorities and the government are finalizing the Indonesian football security system and infrastructure improvements.

In the midst of that situation, Dortmund finally canceled to come to Indonesia. The club also confirmed their cancellation to Indonesia regarding the current football situation in the country.

“As a substitute for the match in Indonesia, which could not be held due to government regulations that are fixing the security system at the stadium, BVB will take on the Johor Southern Tigers (JDT) in Malaysia on November 28,” Dortmund’s official statement read.

Meanwhile, Dortmund also revealed their opponents from Singapore and Vietnam. Emre Can Cs will face Singaporean club Lion City Sailors on 24 November, then the Vietnam national team on 30 November.

This Southeast Asia tour was chosen by Dortmund to fill the void in the schedule in the midst of the 2022 World Cup. The world’s biggest football tournament will be held on November 20 – December 18.

“Meanwhile, BVB will continue to maintain connections with fans in Indonesia through digital workshops related to fan relations, fan culture, and visits by BVB legends and Evonik Football Academy, and joint projects prepared by the Bundesliga have been prepared,” wrote Dortmund’s closing statement.
