Basketball: Mame Maty Mbengue becomes the first African basketball player to enter the Hall of Fame

Former Senegalese basketball international Mame Maty Mbengue has become a little more legendary with her selection in the 2022 class of the FIBA ​​Hall All Fame. A distinction that consecrates the exceptional career and its contribution to the development of Basketball in the world. The five-time African champion who will be honored on November 30 in Switzerland, becomes the first African woman to reach this rank. But, the third Senegalese personality to enter the history of world basketball after Abdoulaye Sèye Moreau and Mathieu Faye.

Mame Maty Mbengue is included in the Class of 2022 of the FIBA ​​Hall of Fame, which includes nine individuals who have contributed enormously to the development of women’s basketball. Five-time Afrobasket gold medalist (1984, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2001), two-time African Games gold medalist (1995, 1999), 4-time Afrobasket MVP, Games of La Francophonie in 1997, Mame Maty Mbengue is thus the first African woman to enter the Hall of Fame.

The President of the Senegalese Basketball Federation, Me Babacar Ndiaye, meanwhile, expressed his satisfaction and offered his warm congratulations to Mame Maty Mbengue on behalf of the Senegalese Basketball family. This appointment, he will say, is a consecration for Senegalese and African women’s BasketBall.

The induction ceremony will take place on Wednesday 30 November at the Maison du Basketball Patrick Baumann in Mies (Switzerland).
