Axelsen smashes the executioner from last week – Ekstra Bladet

The world’s best badminton player Viktor Axelsen is through to the semi-finals of the French Open.

The Dane showed almost frightening strength when he beat Yew Kean Loh from Singapore 21-11, 21-17 on Friday.

It was precisely Loh who last week ruined Axelsen’s chance to win the Denmark Open in Odense, after the Danish favorite had to see himself defeated in the quarter-finals.

It also seemed as if Viktor Axelsen was extra motivated in Friday’s match, where he was deeply focused on every single ball.

At one point the referee tried to speak to the Dane, but it took a few seconds before Axelsen registered that he was being spoken to.

Viktor Axelsen picked up most of the balls, and as soon as the opportunity for a smash presented itself, the Dane pounced.

Quickly in the first set, the Danish favorite took a 13-3 lead. Loh then got a better grip, before Axelsen ultimately took the set 21-11.

The opponent from Singapore got off to a better start in the second set, where he hung on until 7-7, before Axelsen got to 14-8.

Yew Kean Loh tried to shake the Danish opponent with offensive play, and managed to reduce to 11-14, before Axelsen pulled away again. Finally, he closed the set to 21-xx.

In the semi-finals, the Dane faces Kodai Naraoka from Japan. In the second semi-final, Rasmus Gemke will face Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong.
