Argentines Molteni and González take the doubles final of the Gijón Open

The Argentines Andrés Molteni and Máximo González won the doubles final of the Gijón Open this morning after beating the Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withwor in a duel that went to the tiebreaker after two sets that each of the couples won (7-6). ) (6-7) and (5-10). The grand final of the ATP 250 tournament in Gijón was a spectacle that began with an even set by the two tandems, which had nothing to do with the final development of the match. The two couples fought to the last drop and made their talent clear, but in the end it was Molteni and González who raised the “Las Letronas” trophy before a Sports Palace filled to the brim.

The doubles final had two clearly differentiated parts, with a first set that was developed with tremendous efficiency by the two pairs, without breaks in the service, and that went to an exciting “tie briek” that the Americans won. (7-6). Before, each couple took advantage of their serve and the morning began, it could be said, somewhat monotonous due to the effectiveness of the four tennis players who went wild only in the final part of the sleeve, when each point was celebrated as a victory.

Meanwhile, the Argentine couple started the second set briskly, who came to take an advantage of three games to one that foreshadowed that the match would be resolved, at that time, in the third set. However, Lammons and Withrow knew how to react and they had it in their power to win on the fast track. In the end, the honor of their opponents, Máximo González and Andrés Molteni, made it possible for the Palacio de los Deportes to enjoy a heart-stopping second tie break.

In this second “tie break”, the Americans took the lead during a good part of its development, but again and as had happened in previous phases of the duel, the Argentines once again put the tables (4-4) and took advantage to get to get (4-6) and ultimately force the tiebreaker where everything would be decided after almost two hours of meeting. What began as a tremendously even duel and even predictable, ended up being a battle to the death, equally tied in almost everything, but with masterful points by the two tandems, who offered a high-level show to a Palacio de los Deportes already practically full to see the individual final.

In the end, it was the Argentines who took the cat to the water (5-10) in the playoff round after an exhausting battle and who celebrated winning on the red court of the Palacio de los Deportes de La Guía after two hours and 17 minutes of fight continues.
