Alcaraz extends his reign one more week

Carlos Alcaraz begins this Monday his seventh week at the head of the ATP classification. A leadership with which the Spanish tennis player hopes to add his first ATP victory as number one in his debut at the Basel tournament after his defeat against David Goffin at the Astana tournament.

Alcaraz remains at the top of the classification with 6,730 and maintains his advantage of 920 points over Rafa Nadal (second with 5,810), which allows Spanish tennis to boast for the fourth consecutive week of having two tennis players from the country in the first two positions of the ranking. The Norwegian Casper Ruud completes the podium with 5,600 points.

The ATP ranking does not leave us big changes this week except the approach of the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas to the fourth place of Daniil Medvedev despite his defeat in the Stockholm final (Medvedev has 5,155 points to Tsitsipas’s 5,035) and the rise of Felix Auger-Aliassime to ninth position after winning the title in Antwerp to the detriment of Taylor Fritz who closes the Top-10 this week with 3,195 points, but with only 65 points of margin over the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, eleventh with 3,130.

Alcaraz and Nadal lead a Race that still distributes three tickets

Alcaraz and Nadal also continue as leaders of the Race to Turin, which grants places to the eight best tennis players of the year for the Nitto ATP Finals. Alcaraz, with 6,460 points, and Nadal, with 5,810, are already classified as well as the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (third with 4,990), the Norwegian Casper Ruud (fourth with 4,930) and the Serbian Novak Djokovic as Wimbledon champion.

Thus, there are still three places left for the ATP Finals for which everything indicates that the Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the American Taylor Fritz and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz will fight. This week’s ATP 500 in Vienna and Basel and, above all, the Masters 1,000 in Paris (October 31-November 6) will decide the three players who will play Alcaraz, Nadal, Tsitsipas, Ruud and Djokovic at the Nitto ATP Finals from Turin.
