Academic institutions share their objectives

Juarez City.- Yesterday, representatives of various universities held the third meeting of the Paso del Norte Consortium of Higher Education Institutions, in which they addressed the academic mobility of students and the research work of teachers with the aim of increasing exchanges between schools; In addition, universities from Camargo, Casas Grandes and Parral joined.

The president of the consortium and the rector of the Technological University of Ciudad Juárez (UTCJ), Carlos Ortiz Villegas, explained that the consortium in the north of the country was formed in 2015, but due to the confinement caused by the global contingency by Covid-19 their meetings were suspended and this year the work was resumed with the intention of reinforcing their collaborations.

Consortium covers several fronts

“We have several tables that are promoted between institutions, some are for research, others are sports, others for links between institutions (…) we are going to see the promotion of a state university basketball circuit, basically it is one more meeting for links between sister universities , both public and private,” said Ortiz Villegas.

In the previous meeting, the rector of the Paso del Norte Technological University (UTPN), Ulises Martínez, requested to host the next university congress, but the consortium indicated that a committee will be formed to receive requests from interested institutions in order to cast a vote and decide which school will serve as the venue for the next occasion.

Seeking to strengthen research

“Right now the universities are beginning to show what type of academic bodies each institution has to try to align a work plan by lines of research and also have the identification of all the research bodies to know how to strengthen the research topic in the state. and in the locality”, stated the academic secretary of the Technological University of Ciudad Juárez, Edgar Lara.

In addition, during this third meeting of the consortium, at the facilities of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, he pointed out that the mobility table defined the criteria for carrying out exchanges between universities, for which even calls have already been issued to carry out the mobility process. in undergraduate, postgraduate, academic programs and research stays.
