Abol about the opponents of the Finnish “Mestis” league: We are not favorites in any game

“Zemgale/LLU” team head coach

“It was the first such outing in our career for the semi-team. We played four away games in five days, managed to come home this week and won the last two matches. Time will tell how it will be in the future. In the future, there will also be a longer trip, but there is nothing to complain about, because it is an opportunity for young players to grow and progress.”

“The league is a place for our young players to grow and progress. We are not favorites in any game. The opponents are a little faster, more technical and stronger than us. At the same time, we fight for points in every game,” says the coach after eight games for the Jelgava team’s place in the league.

At the moment, it is still too early to decide on any changes to improve the game with shots, without ruling out the possibility of buying a superior foreign player, explains Ābol, emphasizing once again that priority is still given to the goal set before the season – the development of our own players.

“We already predicted before the season that we might have problems with scoring goals. This was also proven at the beginning of the season, when we failed to score in two games in a row against Tampere “Koovee”, which is a good enough team.”

Abols denies that the Jelgava team might lack motivation because the rules of the competition stipulate that even if they win the “Mestis” league, they will not be allowed to move to the strongest Finnish league “Zemgale”/LLU.

“For almost all the players on our team, this is the strongest competition they have participated in so far. If you show a good performance, you can also receive an offer from a club of the highest league in Finland,” says the coach, referring to another opportunity opened by participation in the Finnish championship.

After eight games played, the Jelgava team is in seventh place in the competition of 14 teams with 11 points won.
