A path yet to be explored: this is how Oviedo faces a decisive week

Bolo, coach of Oviedo, always carefully chooses his words to offer the most positive reading of his team’s situation. In bad times, his press conferences have turned into express coaching courses. In Zaragoza the trend was followed, with the coach, although acknowledging the defects of his own (self-criticism, it must be conceded, is always present), underlining the things they had done well. He seemed satisfied, convinced, more in gestures than in words, with Oviedo’s second half at La Romareda, a convincing performance that served to equalize and come close to victory. “The doubts are left behind”, he came to proclaim in what seemed like an excess of euphoria if the league situation is analyzed. Because Oviedo remains in a gray position in the table, accumulating six weeks without winning, but Zaragoza shows a path that the coach now wants to explore. The second part was good, but to verify the blue recovery, we have to wait for events. Tomorrow’s visit to Huesca de Ziganda (6:30 p.m.) seems like the perfect touchstone.

In Zaragoza, the team improved as soon as they formed in a more natural way. First off, Bolo put together a chameleon-like team, capable of changing from a 3-4-3 without the ball (Mier was ahead to the far right) to a 3-5-2 with the ball (Mier in midfield) in which Viti and Bretones They had to give breadth. The game plan was not badly thought out. Worse it seemed that Oviedo needed a few more sessions to have the most crushed system.

One of the problems that the blues encountered was in the exit of the ball, when neither Luengo nor Tarín managed to take advantage of the superiority that was generated when they drove towards the enemy field. Bolo tried to correct the defects shown from the band, but the solution came after the break at La Romareda.

It is not that the first half was very bad, there have been much worse ones this year, but the defensive error after three minutes (which accentuated the idea that the team lacked some concepts with the new drawing), conditioned the judgment. Oviedo dominated, without arriving in a very clear way, but they needed something more against a very blurred Zaragoza.

The inclusion of Lucas was a blessing for Oviedo. Because he was successful in his actions but, above all, because the team took a step forward with a more natural system. The 4-2-3-1, something like the most popular drawing today, allowed the Blues to settle in the rival field and start a melee from which they emerged victorious.

As in the first act, the goal had an influence, achieved as soon as he jumped onto the pitch, in the first action taken from the corner. To Oviedo it is necessary to point out as merit that he did not hesitate with the success, he stuck to his plan and managed to touch the second. A Romareda who went from concern to open criticism played in his favor.

The second goal was missing, the one that would have closed a victory with immediate healing effects, but at least the reading remains that the team seems to have found a way. Perhaps it was the circumstances, going behind on the scoreboard and empty-handed, that forced the team to be more determined. Or perhaps it is that Bolo has finally found the key. From the coach’s words, he seems to believe in the latter.

While some pieces are recovered in the workshop, the technician takes note of what happened in Zaragoza. It may be a way to go. The depth sought by the coach came with the 4-2-3-1 long winger and wingers to face on the pitch. Now it’s time to see against Huesca if the courage shown in the second half, the one that Bolo was in charge of extolling, has continuity against Cuco Ziganda’s team.
