MILWAUKEE (AP) — Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to put the New York Mets ahead for good, who overturned a four-run deficit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5 on Tuesday night.
For the second night in a row, Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer for New York, which preserved its one-game lead over Atlanta atop the NL East.
Instead, the Brewers suffered a devastating blow to their wild-card hopes for the postseason.
New York won with just four hits, one night after securing its first playoff berth since 2016 with a 7-2 win at Milwaukee.
Milwaukee remained 2 1/2 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the hunt for the final wild-card spot in the National League. The Brewers’ loss made a playoff berth official for Atlanta.
Taylor Rogers (4-8) was the loser.
Dominican Joely Rodríguez (2-4) got the win, with a one-inning blank relief. Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz resolved the ninth chapter to earn his 31st save.
For the Mets, Puerto Rican Lindor 3-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Venezuelans Eduardo Escobar 3-0, Luis Guillorme 2-0.
