A new era begins in the Argentine Championships of Formative Selections. After the stoppage forced by the pandemic, the second half of 2022 will be the official relaunch of the contest, which will have a new format and will aim for all provinces to be able to participate in all categories. The contest that will open the calendar will be the female U15, whose first phase is scheduled to be played on September 23, 24 and 25. It will be followed by the men’s U15, from September 20 to October 2.
The new format of the tournament will consist of two phases. For the first instance, the country will be divided into six regions of four federations each, grouped by geographical proximity, to shorten distances and facilitate the participation of all provinces. A home run will be played over three days in an all-against-all format and the winner of each region will advance to the final phase, made up of six teams. At the same time, the Selections of the Interior program is launched, which will form a team for each region, with monthly meetings and annual competition. The regions will be composed as follows:
Region 1: La Rioja, San Juan, Cordoba and Catamarca
Region 2: Salta, Jujuy, Tucuman and Santiago del Estero
Region 3: Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes and Misiones
Region 4: Mendoza, La Pampa, Nuequén and San Luis
Region 5: Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego, Rio Negro and Chubut
Region 6: FeBAMBA, Buenos Aires, Entre Rios and Santa Fe
There is the possibility that some federations are considered single zones. The condition for this to happen is the number of players registered in the SiReDi system for each federation. Every year, the CAB Board of Directors will determine the number of registrants needed to be a single zone. In 2022, the requirement will be to have more than 10,000 players. If any federation is considered a single zone, the zone will be reorganized or it will remain with three teams
The contest will be held in the U13, U15 and U17 categories for both the male and female branches. Each federation will host one of the regional home runs. The organization, accommodation and food proposals must be submitted to the CAB. The non-organization or non-participation of a home run by a federation will leave it without the possibility of participating in all categories.
All players who make up the provincial teams must play a tournament that is registered and governed by the SiReDi system. The players and players will be able to play for the Federation in which they participate in the tournaments governed by the SiReDi or where it corresponds to them by their place of birth. Those players who have participated in international tournaments with the Argentine National Team will not be able to play.
The project comes hand in hand with the formation of the Selections of the Interior program, which will be carried out in each region of the country. It consists of forming selected players with outstanding players from the provinces of each region. At least two monthly meetings will be held with players from each region. Each team will be led by a coach from the national team’s coaching staff and will be assisted by the EDAS coaches. The objective is to carry out at least one annual meeting of the interior selections where the squads of each region meet.
