This is the last Grand Slam tennis tournament. And, it’s also the last competition that Serena Williams will participate in as a professional player. The 2022 US Tennis Open has started.
The US Open tennis is the fourth and last major tournament, with the Australian Open, Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. The current title holders are the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the men’s category and the Briton Emma Raducanu in the women’s category. This tournament has a special flavor this year: it is the last competition for Serena Williams, who will retire afterwards.
The 40-year-old American has already won the US Open six times in singles, twice in doubles and once in mixed. Given her immense career — she is considered by many to be the greatest tennis player of all time — she obviously gets all the attention. She has already managed to win her first round.
Other tennis stars are also in the game: among the men, there is still Daniil Medvedev, who is coming to defend his title, and Rafael Nadal, who managed to win Roland-Garros in 2022. The US Open qualifiers took place from August 23-26. The main tournament kicked off on August 29, with the first round running until August 30. The second and third round take place on August 31-September 1 and September 2-3, respectively. Then will come the round of 16 (September 4-5), the quarter-finals (September 6-8), the semi-finals (September 9), the women’s final (September 10) and the men’s final (September 11).
