“I felt ashamed almost at all times”

TELEVISION MAGAZINE. – You betrayed the trust that Elsa Esnoult placed in you. You are embarrassed?
Clemence Castle. – I didn’t feel comfortable with her sadness… Elsa is a woman I appreciate very much! I didn’t know her before the shoot, but we created real bonds during the adventure. After the final, we discussed it and she understood that she had lied to her in the name of the game. I clung to the Rêves association, for which she was fighting, which forced me to make strong strategic decisions. . This entertainment pushed me into my psychological entrenchments because I was constantly wondering if I was going to own up to my decisions. Being a traitor, I considered that all shots could go forward. It was a permanent headache to hide, while managing relationships with others as best as possible.

David DOLLET. – I felt embarrassed almost every moment! And not only against Elsa… In this game we live a permanent fight against our own conscience and honesty.

You had no qualms about eliminating your wife from the first show…
DD- Yes, I did! But all this is balanced with the desire and pleasure of having fun. There would have been no point in gambling if he had forgiven her, just because she is my wife. It would have been to make fun of the game, the people and herself. Before filming we agreed to act without our decisions having the slightest impact on our lives. If she hadn’t had that intelligence, we would never have agreed to participate in this show. But she addressed me to fragile couples who would like to apply for the second season: they must refrain!

Did you have good relations with Elsa Esnoult?
CC- Today we have very good relations. Furthermore, with David, we decided that our profits would be shared with Elsa, which means that her association earns a third of the final sum (34,400 euros, Ed.). Due to our respective roles, the outcome of the game was different, but we really wanted to thank her for her trust.

“When one is a traitor, one has the impression of being a deer in the midst of hunters.”

David Douillet, winner at “Les Traitors” in M6.

However, from the first episode, Elsa Esnoult’s suspicions fall on you because you blush when Delphine Wespiser mentions the possibility that you are one of the traitors…
CC- It was the first day and I told myself that if it starts like this I’ll burn. Also, my gestures betrayed me because I made weird movements. I tried to regain the upper hand so that each speech was convincing and the more the game progressed, the more I got into the shoes of the investigator when he knew very well the names of the traitors.

Which player impressed you the most?
DD- I would say Clémence because she did amazingly well. From the beginning, she is in the crosshairs of the other players. She had the pack of dogs on her ass and she made it through the drops. When you are traitors, you feel like a deer among hunters. We are spied on all day: we have to think of the smallest word and the smallest blink of an eye!

CC- David was imperial. Already because he had the guts to be one of the players who eliminated his wife. And then, in his way of expressing himself and managing the strategy, he was brilliant. In my opinion, he played a perfect match.

How would you describe the bond you forged during the adventure?
CC- When we distanced ourselves from Riadh, rightly feeling that she was not necessarily playing the traitor’s game, we found ourselves in pairs. We felt we had to trust each other. If we wanted to go as far as possible, we didn’t necessarily have a choice. I did well to follow him, because he really is a fundamentally upright person. He showed me that he only had one word.

DD- We reason in the same way and have the same logic, so we make decisions almost without speaking to each other. It’s obvious, it’s something natural. Clémence is smart, lively, she understands quickly and sees everything. For Riadh, as soon as trust is broken, it’s over!

We feel that you were very angry with him…
DD- Frankly, there were only three of us against everyone! If we can’t count on each other, it’s not even worth it. I prefer that he has gone to have a doubt, a weight, a loose grenade that can explode in your face at any moment.

“I told my partner Marie not to worry”

Clémence Castel, winner in “Les Traitors” in M6.

Clémence, do you attribute this victory to your experience in “Koh Lanta”?
CC- Of course, because I learned a lot on a strategic level thanks to this adventure. During the first season I participated in in 2005, this aspect was not so strong. On the other hand, in “Koh-Lanta: The legend”, I had to handle many situations.

And you, David, has your past in politics helped you sharpen your treacherous weapons?
DD- No, because I wasn’t on that record at all and that’s maybe one of the reasons why I don’t do it anymore. I never betrayed anyone, nor did I feel like I could be manipulated.

In this show, you lie and manipulate your comrades brilliantly. Does this faculty that you exercise with talent frighten your respective spouses?
CC- I admit that I quickly announced to my partner Marie that I was going to the end of the adventure. And I told her not to worry, that she did it for the game. I want to be in tune with myself! For the show, I allowed myself to deviate a bit from my line of conduct, because I thought a lot about my association. But at no time will I behave like this with those around me.

DD- No, because my wife knows me perfectly. Also, when we watched the show together, she realized at what precise moment she was lying. She can read me like an open book.

The other candidates’ rooms were close to yours. How did you manage to join the Council of Traitors at night, without the other players noticing?
CC- The locks were locked and the windows were boarded up so that the other candidates would not see who was walking through the castle. As the floor creaks, the production company’s employees walked for more than an hour through the corridors to cover their tracks and prevent others from hearing which room we left from. And then the music also played to mask all the noise. Night walks were also off-limits during the time slot when we were likely to hold the traitor’s council.

Do you keep in touch with the other candidates?
CC- We regularly message each other in a WhatsApp group that we created. Many companions met at Bernard Werber’s house to play werewolf. But I couldn’t participate because he was taking care of my children!

DD- It is an adventure that brought us together because emotionally it was something powerful. For my part, I went to Bernard’s house and we played this role-playing game again.

Who won this time?
DD- I won again!
