“Valmiera” defeats “Ķekava” and returns to the top of the table

“Valmiera” floorball players won the “Elvi Floorball League” tournament game on Friday. As guests, Valmieri beat the floorball players of “Ķekava” with a score of 6:3 (2:0, 1:1, 3:2).

Kevin Šmits and Arvis Kārkliņš put Valmiera in the lead in the first third. In the second period, Klāvs Jansons recovered one goal, but Guido Lauga restored the two-goal lead for the “Valmiera” team. In the final period, Lauga scored two more goals, while Jansons responded with an accurate shot, sending the ball into the visiting team’s goal. In the 59th minute, the teams exchanged goals, Pavel Semyonovas was accurate in “Valmiera”, but Tom Ľeirans scored for the home side.

With the success, “Valmiera” returned to the top of the tournament table, having won eight points in four matches. “Lielvārde”/”FatPipe” follows one place lower with six points in three matches, while Cēsus “Lekrings” completes the top three with the same number of points.

11 teams are competing in the men’s competition this season, while six teams will compete in the women’s competition. The teams of the floorball league will play a two-round regular tournament this season, after which the eight strongest teams will enter the playoffs. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will be played in series of up to four wins, but the champions and bronze medalists will be determined in the Super Final, which will take place in “Arena Riga” on April 15, 2023. In the final match of the last season, Cēsa “Lekrings” beat the 2020/2021 season champion Kocēnas “Rubeni” 5:4.
