US Open: Iga Swiatek celebrates third Grand Slam title

Iga Swiatek has won the final in the second set in the US Open for three times Grand-Slam– Winner chosen. The 21-year-old Pole won the duel with the seven-year-old Tunisian Ons Jabeur 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) early on Sunday morning (September 11, 2022/CEST) and triumphed for the first time in New York.

The world number one, who already in 2020 and 2022 the French Open had won, successfully contested her tenth final on the tour in a row and is the first US Open winner from Poland since the introduction of professional tennis in 1968. Jabeur missed it again, as the first African in the Open Era win a Grand Slam tournament.

Second consecutive Grand Slam final

She was in the Wimbledon final in July and missed out on the title after losing to Kazakh Jelena Rybakina. Swiatek pocketed prize money of 2.6 million US dollars. Jabeur will also receive $1.3 million as a finalist.
